The hamburger designer Julia Stoess was always fascinated by insects. So she began very early on to draw and model insects and spiders. After studying costume design at the university of applied sciences in Hamburg, she worked for 15 years as a costume designer for film and television. In addition to her entomological knowledge and design skills for modeling insects she also intensified the detailed coloration of the models with airbrush.
Since 2001, she designed fulltime arthropod and insect models for exhibitions and natural history museums in Germany and abroad. Among other things, Julia Stoess received the René-Lanooy-Award for the documentation of designing a cockchafer model and was awarded with the silver medal at the 2008 World Taxidermy Championships in Salzburg in the category models / reproductions.
